Become an Informed Citizen at this Community Event

STATE COLLEGE, PA – On Tuesday, August 29, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the 100 and 200 blocks of South Allen Street in downtown State College will be filled with multiple engagement stations to help attendees learn more about the community. The goal of this event is to provide an educational opportunity for new Penn State University (PSU) student residents and current Borough residents to learn more about the services and ordinances in place, which helps to maintain the quality of life and safety in our community. This event is a partnership between Penn State University, the Downtown Improvement District, Neighborhood Associations and the Borough of State College. This event is best described as a community resource fair plus block party.

Attendees of this event will find over 50 interactive engagement stations being run by community members, local organizations and businesses. By stopping by these stations attendees have the opportunity to learn more about the work the organizations are doing in the community and also have the chance to win great prizes, like an iPad and gift cards to local businesses.

There will also be food at the event from establishments like Rita’s Italian Ice, ElGringo Taco Truck and Ye Olde College Diner, but attendees are also encouraged to visit one of the many great eateries in downtown State College and browse the fine shops. Live entertainment at the event includes, student performers from PSU, Miss Melanie and the Volley Rats, The Adorabulls and Velveeta.

The Borough has been hosting LION events annually for over ten years. Previously the Borough hosted LION Walk, an effort to get students, community members and local leaders out in the community to distribute resources packets to residence’s front doors, but in the past three years this event has transformed into the LION Bash.
