Experience the cool vibe of downtown State College during our monthly First Friday events.  A casual atmosphere features art, people-watching, mingling with friends, shopping, and dining at the diverse and delectable State College restaurants.  First Friday goers will experience after-hours access to galleries and shops, free bites and beverages, live music and entertainment, retail and restaurant specials, and more. “Climate” Art Exhibition at Art Alliance Gallery Downtown

The changing climate is one of the most pressing issues of our time. “Climate” features artwork created in response to issues surrounding our changing climate, such as: the potential changes that might happen to our planet due, the hazards inherent in dramatic change, adaption and mitigation systems we might be able to implement to help us reshape and live in this new world. There will also be a special poetry reading and climate talk by juror, Peter Buckland,  on Sunday, April 7, 4 – 5pm at the gallery.

Opening Reception for Local Artist Susan Graham at the Downtown Improvement District

Downtown State College Improvement District will be hosting an April First Friday event! Join us in celebrating the work of local artist Susan Graham on display in our office (127 S Fraser St) from 5-8 pm on April 5th. Light refreshments and parking validations will be provided!


Make America Green Again at New Leaf Initiative

6 – 7 pm

JOIN us for PART 3 of some exciting GREEN news in our communities! State College Area School District (SCASD) will tell us about their renovations and sustainability initiatives within the district. Plus, Burkholder, of Burkholder’s Country Market Solar Installation Project in Penns Valley by Sun Directed, will be there to discuss the reasons behind his investment! See you there! Located at New Leaf Initiative (3rd floor, State College Municipal Building). Event is free to the public.


Ladies Night Open Mic at The Makery

Join us for this First Friday evening of intergenerational storytelling, reading and song hosted by Write to Shine. This is an evening for women of all ages: writers, singers, listeners, readers, mothers, daughters, friends, lovers, loners, singles, seekers and sages. Email [email protected] if you would like to read, sing or speak. Opportunities for “on the spot” writing will also be available, with a wide open mic to follow.


Woskob Family Gallery

Join us, for this First Friday, in a public collaboration of illumination and color! In the Woskob Family Gallery, let your creativity SHINE. Hang strands of color, mirrors, and other materials to our large community sculpture to make a work that radiates through the dark State College evening. To remember the experience, create a smaller globe light sculpture to take home with you, a perfect decor piece to help you SHINE through the dark. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

 


Hip Hop Dance Workshop at CPDW

If you’ve ever dreamed of trying hip-hop dance, come join us for a hip-hop experience for all ages and levels.  No prior dance experience necessary. In this class, you will learn some hip-hop fundamentals, including isolations, footwork, and dancing to the beat of the music. Everyone will then learn a short hip hop routine applying these basics, and dance it together!  This First Friday event will be held on Friday, April 5 from 6-7PM at the Central PA Dance Workshop studio at 101 S. Fraser Street. Workshop will be $15/person, $10/students, and $8/Current CPDW students. (Cash or check only).  Please plan to dance in socks, bare feet or dance-specific shoes – No street shoes!


Local Artist Tory Hallock at The Expect More Store

The Expect More Store presents the work of local artist Troy Hallock during First Friday! Stop by to view his original watercolors while enjoying cheeses, wine, and beer.


Happy Hour Drop-In Rate at Lila Yoga

On April 5th, Lila Yoga will have a SPECIAL HAPPY HOUR $10 Drop-In Rate during the 5:30pm Advanced Yoga Class taught by Erica Kaufman in honor of First Friday! The event will feature live music from Bear Ketchum as well.
