The Arthur Goldstein Jazz Quartet returns to kick off of our 2019 Jazz in the Attic series.
This group began in the 80s as a trio with guitarist Justin Ezzi and founding member, saxophonist Steve Bowman.

In the absence of a true rhythm section, the group set its goal as an intimate and chamber-music like philosophy, with each member free to comment upon and enhance the other’s thoughts. This spirit of adventure also motivates our treatment of various material.

That characteristic conversation has remained intact through the addition of various bassists and drummers, including the now-present James Robinson(bass) and Kevin Lowe(drums).

Their repertoire includes Shorter, Giuffre, and even Bach—with original material by Lowe and Goldstein prominently featured. The music is informed and influenced by bebop and post-bop.
