This edition of State of the Story includes narratives on the topic of quitting. While the word “quitting” can carry a negative connotation, we will hear stories of the liberating quality of quitting, and the unexpected payoffs that come from recognizing when enough is enough.

WHAT IS State of the Story? State of the Story — or SOTS — is a live storytelling and music performance series held six times a year at The State Theatre, usually a Monday evening in September, October, November, February, March and April. Each performance is organized around a theme and includes a musical artist and six to eight story tellers who tell true stories, often in unexpected ways. SOTS is modeled on The Moth, an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. As at The Moth, SOTS storytellers tell true stories of their own experiences, often funny, sometimes serious and always revealing what makes us human. If you’d like to tell a story at a future SOTS, join our Facebook group and reach out to a SOTS ringleader.
