The Centre Transportation Authority (CATA)
The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is a joint municipal authority of the five Centre Region municipalities (State College Borough, College, Ferguson, Harris, and Patton Townships), the Borough of Bellefonte, and the Village of Pleasant Gap. CATA currently provides the following seven types of transportation services:
CENTRE LINE
Fixed-route bus service is provided by CATA’s distinctive orange and white buses serving the Centre Region, the Penn State University, the Borough of Bellefonte, and the Village of Pleasant Gap. Cash, tokens (each valid for one fare), and passes may be used as fare on any of the CENTRE LINE routes. Fare for CENTRE LINE service is currently $1.25. Children under 40” tall ride for free when accompanied by an adult.
The LOOP
The LOOP is a local public bus transportation system providing fare-free circulator service around the Penn State University Park Campus and Downtown State College. The LOOP consists of two integrated routes – the TOWN and the CAMPUS LOOPs – that run at the same times and cover the same general territory, the main difference being that they travel in opposite directions to cover all popular destinations. The TOWN LOOP covers Downtown State College and Campus via Beaver Avenue and the CAMPUS LOOP covers Downtown State College and Campus via College Avenue. The LOOP services are offered fare-free to all riders.
The LINK
The LINK provides fare-free service on Curtin Road between Lot 44 (the Bryce Jordan Center Parking Lot) and West Campus. The LINK service is offered fare-free to all riders.
Park & Ride
In cooperation with Penn State, CATA operates the Park & Ride program, a service providing inexpensive perimeter parking for Downtown State College business employees and local residents. Monthly subscriptions may be purchased for $15 at either CATA office and include a hang tag for the vehicle and use of the no-fare LOOP and LINK services.
Centre Ride
Curb-to-curb transportation is available for disabled individuals unable to use fixed-route service and for senior citizens. For further information or to request an application and brochure, please call (814) 238-CATA(2282).
Special Services
CATA provides a variety of special services including shuttles to Beaver Stadium, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts™, Ag Progress Days, the Bellefonte Arts and Crafts Fair, the Haunted Granary, Bellefonte Victorian Christmas, and First Night® State College.
RideShare
RideShare is a free computerized ride matching program helping commuters find easy and economical ways to get to and from work via car- or can-pools by coordinating ride sharing among people who travel from or through State College communities and the outlying areas.
