Downtown State College welcomed Crust & Crumb Cafe, located on 115 E. Beaver Avenue, on August 25, 2020.

Amber Winkler, the head chef and owner of Crust & Crumb Cafe, did not always have this cafe in her plans, but one chance internet search later, and she had found somewhere to indulge in her culinary passions.

Winkler graduated from Penn State and was a structural engineer for 15 years before deciding to begin her culinary adventure. She was in culinary school during the day and pastry school at night while working at restaurants in Pittsburgh.

Winkler’s goal for this cafe is to target the morning crowd, with the hours of the shop being 7:30 am-4 pm. Winkler hopes to bring something a little different to Downtown State College by bringing a different style to Beaver Avenue by keeping it “simple, with a twist”.

“We are artisan inspired, which I think is the biggest difference we bring to the area. Everyone has their niche. I think this is something different with a different concept,” Winkler said.

One of Winkler’s other goals is to use unique vendors with unique stories within her store.

“People are doing interesting things and we want to bring those things here. We want to be really unique, with a menu that changes,” Winkler said.

Crust & Crumb Cafe is now open and excited to serve you!
