Flower Fantasies Exhibit at the State Theatre
There will be an opening reception from 5 – 9 p.m. with light refreshments. Artist Karen A. Deutsch started her series of flower photos in 2012. They were initially inspired by the beautiful blooms that her husband grows in their small cottage garden. She set a vase full of flowers in front of one of her abstract paintings and suddenly realized the powerful synergy between the flowers and the painting. This led her to try out different flowers (color, shape, size) and vases (haunting the local goodwill store). She loves the relationship between the natural form of the flowers and the man-made shapes of her abstract paintings. She began shooting from different angles and new fantasy worlds emerged each time. To continue exploring this ever-evolving process, she spends the winters creating new paintings to use as backdrops while pouring through catalogues for new varieties of flowers to plant.
