Experience the cool vibe of downtown State College during our monthly First Friday events.  A casual atmosphere features art, people-watching, mingling with friends, shopping, and dining at the diverse and delectable State College restaurants.  First Friday goers will experience after-hours access to galleries and shops, free bites and beverages, live music and entertainment, retail and restaurant specials, and more. Jeanne McKinney Art Exhibit at The Expect More Store, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The Expect More Store presents the work of local artist Jeanne McKinney during First Friday! Stop by to view her original paintings and enjoy cheeses, wine, and beer. Jeanne Black McKinney was born in Buffalo, New York. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Art. She also studied at the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and with private teachers, in classes and workshops. Her work reflects her intense interest and appreciation in the natural world as she paints plein air landscapes and organic still lifes. Painting outdoors seems natural to her as she also enjoys hiking and flyfishing in central Pennsylvania and beyond. Jeanne’s professional affiliations include Juried Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America, Associate Member of American Women Artists, Signature membership in the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society, and memberships in the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, the Art Association of Harrisburg, Art in Common of Centre County, the Artist Registry of the Bellefonte Museum for Centre County, the Pastel Society of New Hampshire, the Degas Pastel Society and the International Association of Pastel Societies. http://www.jeannemckinney.com/

 

50th Anniversary Members Show at the Art Alliance Gallery Downtown 

The Art Alliance Gallery is looking for entries for The Reflection Show in May and the Vision show in June! All entries are due by April 25 at noon.

 

 

 

Downtown State College Farmer’s Market

The Downtown State College Farmer’s Market will be open from 11:30am-5:30pm on Locust Lane, join us for fresh, locally made fruits, vegetables, baked goods, honey, natural soaps, and more!

 

 

First Friday Upcycle Drive

The Woskob Family Gallery is setting up a station on Allen St. for anyone to drop off their recyclable materials before May 4th. On May 4th there will be an Upcycle Workshop from 5-8! Participants will be able to create their very own planters, bird feeders, bug hotels, and other environmental projects. During the workshop view the exhibition “Tiny Acts Topple Empires,” a group exhibition exploring the multitude of ways contemporary art can challenge the status quo and enact incremental change in our culture. From a national open call, curator Heather Darcy Bhandari selected works by thirty-five artists that engage in various forms of rebellion from revealing frequently invisible subjects to operating through direct acts of intervention.

 

 

Join Appalachian Outdoors for usual libations from 5-8! Mount NitaNee Kombucha will be offering tastings of their latest delicious Kombucha. KidTech Centre County will keep the kids happy and busy!

 

 

The Music Mart is hosting an open house! Raffle and Door prizes will be available for all string change participants. Enter for a chance to win one of two pedals from their newest stock of Electro-Harmonix. Take advantage of a free set of strings courtesy of D’Addario. There will even be live music from Eric Ian Farmer, The Psychic Beat One Man Band, and more!

 

 

Join Webster’s Bookstore & Cafe from 5-9pm for some fun and interesting events in the Cafe Side! Check out the used book and vinyl department as well for some awesome deals!

 

 

 

Velveeta will be playing at the The Saloon starting at 10:30pm until midnight. Stop in for a $5 Monkey Boy and dance the night away to your favorite, cheesy, 80’s rock and party band!

 

 

 

 

Old State Clothing Co. will be hosting Denise Kaminsky, authort of the Nittany Lion Kid’s books, and Kevin Reilly of “Impressions of Happy Valley.”
