Experience the cool vibe of downtown State College during our monthly First Friday events.  A casual atmosphere features art, people-watching, mingling with friends, shopping, and dining at the diverse and delectable State College restaurants.  First Friday goers will experience after-hours access to galleries and shops, free bites and beverages, live music and entertainment, retail and restaurant specials, and more. Local Artist Jennifer Kane at The Expect More Store

5:30 – 7:30 pm

The Expect More Store presents the work of local artist Jennifer Kane during First Friday! Stop by to view her original artwork and enjoy cheeses, wine, and beer.

Kane, a contemporary artist, received a BFA in Painting and an MFA in Costume Design from the University of Illinois.

Eric Ian Farmer Performs on the Fraser Street MLK Plaza Stage

5:00 – 8:00 pm

 

Downtown State College welcomes Eric Ian Farmer as he returns to entertain the First Friday crowds!  Enjoy Eric’s smooth and inspiring songs as you stroll through the street during First Friday! Throughout this performance, Eric will be joined by Darryl Davies (flute), Elizabeth Webb and Mary Anne Cleary (vocals).

First Friday at The State Theatre

5 :00 – 7 :00 pm

     

Local A capella group, The Nittany Knights A Capella Barbershop Chorus, will be performing in the lobby. This will just be a taste of the amazing music you can experience when they take the main stage on Saturday, May 4th!

Local artist Mary Deutsch will also be hosting a reception in the lobby from 5-7 pm. You can find her art in The State Theatre’s gallery for the months of May and June!

Annual Art Alliance Recycled Show at the Art Alliance Gallery Downtown

The Recycled Art Show is in its twenty-fifth year of inspiring environmental and artistic goals for Central Pennsylvania artists. Entry to the show is not juried and is open to artists of all ages. This is an opportunity for artists to express their concern for the environment and the importance of recycling programs like the one we are fortunate to have in Centre County. For the second time this show will be in our Gallery Downtown, attracting a larger audience and open for most of the month of May.

 The Central PA Dance Workshop presents a Musical Theater Dance Workshop

The Central PA Dance Workshop (CPDW) invites you to take part in a Musical Theater Dance Workshop. Come join CPDW faculty and learn some of the moves made famous by Bob Fosse, renowned choreographer of stage and screen. At this workshop, you will learn the basics of the Fosse style of dance, including the head, shoulder, and hip isolations that made his work so iconic. Participants will also learn a snippet of original choreography from one of Fosse’s Broadway dance numbers.

All ages and experience levels are welcome to join us on May’s First Friday: May 3 from 6-7PM at the Central PA Dance Workshop studio at 101 S. Fraser St. 

Workshop is $15/person, $10/students and $8/ Current CPDW students (Cash or check only, please!) 

Dance shoes, socks, or bare feet only – no street shoes may be worn on our studio floor. 


Create Your Own Musical Instrument at the Woskob Family Gallery

Visitors of all ages are invited to join the Woskob Family Gallery for a night of whimsical musical fun for May’s First Friday. From 5:00 – 8:00 PM, visitors can create their own unique musical instruments using a variety of materials. From 5:30 – 6:30 PM, enjoy a concert by Los Tikis, a local band of South American faculty and graduate students. Los Tikis will share folk songs from their countries and show the audience some of their own handmade instruments. Drop in at any point for an evening of music, making, and collaboration.
