Delfeayo Marsalis—trombonist, composer, producer, and educator—and his Uptown Jazz Orchestra bring the New Orleans funk alive with selections from their latest album, Jazz Party, plus the soulful sounds of street brass bands. Streamed live from Esplanade Studios in New Orleans, the set is guaranteed to keep toes tapping, hands clapping, and fingers snapping.

Marsalis is celebrated for his “technical excellence, inventive mind, and frequent touches of humor,” observes a Los Angeles Times writer. “One of the best, most imaginative, and musical of the trombonists of his generation,” according to a San Francisco Examiner reviewer, Marsalis and his family (father Ellis and brothers Branford, Wynton, and Jason) were named National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters in 2011.

The hard-swinging Uptown Jazz Orchestra, a mainstay in New Orleans jazz clubs, is a big band that emphasizes groove, riff playing, and polyphonic improvisation. The orchestra’s concerts let the good times roll with soulful soloists who prompt audience members to cheer throughout each set.
