Take a ride on the Polar Express! For more than a decade families have been including this downtown event in their holiday traditions, returning year after year and watching their children grow through annual photos with Santa.
The adventure always starts in the Children’s Department at Schlow Centre Region Library, where volunteers read The Polar Express by Chris Van Alsburg to groups of avid listeners. At the conclusion of the story, children 12 and under each receive a pouch containing a little bell as a reminder of the story and a gold coin to spend at Santa’s workshop. Then everyone boards a trolley for a ride to Santa’s Workshop.
Santa is on hand to greet and take photos with every child who visits the workshop. After visiting with Santa, children then enter the workshop and pick out a toy to purchase with their gold coin. The last stop is the craft table where they receive a printed copy of their photo with Santa and have the opportunity to create a keepsake frame.
This event is only possible through the help of many volunteers. Thank you to the members of the Downtown Rotary Club and Stepping Stones Community Church who give of their time and talents each year to make the holidays a little brighter for all who attend The Polar Express.
